#beadmess

I have a decent collection of beads. I started collecting about 7 years ago with Pandora. Pandora is the only bead game in town, although there is an Elfbeads Rep who lets us check out her wares sometimes. Lately the joy has been slipping a little because I just can’t get a handle on how to keep my pretties organized and safe and easy to use.

I like to change up my bracelets everyday depending on what I’m wearing or what’s going on or what my mood is and that requires me to be able to see what I have, access it and then play with the beads. I usually do this in the morning cuz why not add a bit of extra stress to the start of your day.

Beads falling, going missing, just mayhem.

And everything needs a good cleaning but why clean when the whole mess just stresses you out.

The pile on my dresser reminds me of the #ohmbeadmess that Jenny and Mike posted earlier this year

Jenny:

Mike:

Their mess is my inspiration.

I need an intervention!

So I took everything out of my top 3 drawers and middle drawer and my acrylic sorting trays.

And bought more dowel from Home Depot. I’ve resorted by brand ( and put glass and silvers together) and have gotten rid of a pile of costume jewelry.

I need a couple more lengths of dowel for redbalifrog and pandora. The dowels are in the upper three drawers and the lower middle drawer has been reorganized for necklaces, x jewelry, etc..

I guess I will have to actually clean everything now 🤦🏻‍♀️

We will see how long this works.

I need a place to put some of the words that crowd my brain. I think that by sorting and organizing them, I will tame them. They can wield power outside of me. I am trying to write more often, to make it a habit, like flossing. September is full of new beginnings

  1. Love this article, love the drawers you have made and your struggles are also my struggle. Storage has always been difficult for me and one day I hope to have one of the smaller Trollbeads dealers displays. Like you I make up bracelets almost daily. The cleaning however, if the part I can not stand and about two months ago, I decided to get water/dust proof boxes at Home Depot and I have my beads sorted by themed/brand in small zip bags, to keep them from tarnishing. Though I miss being able to see them on a rod 😕 for most brands I still have the glass beads on rods in bead boxes. I’m somewhat organized, except when I pull out beads to make several combos for the blog, then I end up with a huge mess all over again. Bead problems 101 😄

    1. Where in Home Depot are those boxes kept? I will look for them when I go back for more dowel. I have thought about ordering tarnish free cloth from Amazon to make pouches or line these drawers. But I needed to get this far first 🤣 it’s a growing concern, this bead habit

      1. At my Home Depot, they are in a side section off the nail and screw aisle. They have different storages cases there. It’s the Husky water and dust proof boxes. They have 2-3 different sizes, I have the small and large. The boxes are made to stack, too, so they don’t slide off each other. I thought about the tarnish cloth bags too, but then I thought I wouldn’t be able to see what the bead was, when looking for certain beads. Let me know any other ideas you come up with!!

  2. Glad you’ve found a way that works for you. Everything looks amazing, and if it means you can better enjoy your lovely collection then that’s a perfect outcome!

    1. Thanks Marisa. I need stronger ( and more) rods but I think this may work for a while. I’ve managed to buy 4 more beads this week 🤦🏻‍♀️ which is probably the real problem
